TEACHING LANGUAGE
Greek B1 or English (at least B1/may vary according to the Bilateral)
The official language of instruction in the University of Thessaly is Greek. However, in numerous cases Erasmus+ exchange students are facilited in their academic work by getting bibliography, tutoring, exams, etc. in English. They are given tutoring courses and private study load in English as well as projects and assignments. In some instances, exams may also be given in English. This means that all applicants should be at least B1 level users in both written and spoken English. Some Bilaterals may require another level of English knowledge, so please refer to each Bilateral. This requirement does not apply to students who are qualified to carry out their studies in Greek. Those students should have a B1 certificate in Greek.
1. ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Important: Students are required to have at least a B1 level knowledge of English*. As proof of English knowledge, certificates obtained by examination from a CEFR- validated English language course.
*The required level of English knowledge may vary according to the Bilateral Agreement. Some Bilaterals may require a B2 or C1 level of English knowledge.

You can be exempted from having a certificate if upon registration you provide a stamped declaration/certificate written on official paper, which certifies that:
- You have attended at least one school year at a high school, which the medium of instruction is English. In this case, the school must issue a certificate stating, “The medium of instruction is English”.
- You attend a University in which the medium of instruction is English. In this case, as well the University must issue a certificate stating, “The medium of instruction is English”.
**We do not accept documentation issued by Universities, professors or language centers regarding the level of English knowledge.
2. GREEK LANGUAGE COURSES
The University of Thessaly offers Greek language courses to all Erasmus and international Students every academic year.
The courses have no tuition and they can be included in the Learning Agreement (3 ECTS).
